Match Report: Ressies v Phoenix, 3rd July

Last night the Ressies played a catch up game against Phoenix FC.

It was a cold night at Hefffon but the Ressies had the perfect start going 1 up inside the 1st minute, Adam Smith left everyone for dust down the right hand side who then squared for the advancing Michael Sealy who calmly slotted home to make it 1-0.

Phoenix settled in to the game after that and started pumping the ball up field , there equaliser came from a very dubious free kick as Adam Smith looked like he had been fouled, but it was given Phoenix’ way; a great ball was whipped in and headed up from about 12 yards to make it 1-1 – a good goal to be fair.

Dunbar had most of the ball but Phoenix were looking to hit Dunbar on the counter as both teams pressed for 2nd goal. At the half time whistle it was all square at 1-1.

The second half was end to end, but as the game went on Phoenix started to drop deep. Dunbar were applying the pressure but were lacking any creation in the final 3rd.

The Phoenix winner came from a mistake in the middle of the park – Phoenix nicked the ball, played a ball through the Dunbar defence and the forward slotted the ball home nicely to make it 2-1 with 15 left.

Dunbar pressed and pressed but couldn’t break Phoenix FC down. Final score: Phoenix 2-1 Dunbar Rovers.

Well done to Phoenix FC in winning their cup final. Let’s hope they show up with the same attitude on Saturday against Coogee although most of last nights reserve team will be playing the 3pm kick off 😉😉.

Next up for Dunbar Reserves is Pagewood at Moore Park @ 1pm on Saturday.
