Champion du monde

Vive la France – and so the world cup is over and France have won the trophy for the second time in their history. When contacted for a quote, AA2’s coach and Frenchman Vince said “Champion du monde”. Insightful there from Vince!

In other news, Rachel Donnelly took out the coveted AAW2 sweep stake. And it’s with the AAW2’s where we will stay. The team secured second place in the league and were treated to amazing cup cakes from Kat Jacob – she also provided the below match report:

Dunbar AAW2s v Loco
July 15th 2018
3-0

The beautiful game produced a beautiful match on Sunday arvo at Alexandra Park. We created chances, we took chances, we applied pressure and we withstood pressure. It was a perfect day, for some perfect play with a perfect bunch of girls.

Little was known about the Loko squad, some mysterious and surprising results meant we didn’t quite know what to expect as we took the pitch. A rousing game strategy involved keeping it on the deck, knocking it around, spreading it wide and penetrating the box. For the most part that’s exactly what we did. Some thrilling attacking football from the forwards and halves combined with solid defence from the backline ensured that Loko had a tough day on the pitch.

A Jennifer (Trippier) Jones cracker swerved the ball in over the keepers head allowing The Rovers to take an early lead. However it wasn’t without a solid fight back from Loko. A true team effort saw Dunbar withstand a Loco onslaught. A big shout out to Maggie’s magnificent head which had quite the workout in sweeper. The Rovers worked hard and held the 1-0 lead going into halftime.

In much the same fashion as the 1st half, Dunbar came out kicking and knocked another goal in during the early stages. Again much the same as the first half Loko fought back with vengeance. They created a few chances here and there, including a free kick cleared off the goal line. Ultimately Dunbar was dynamite and denied them #muhahahha. With a bit of confidence behind us we continued the lovely attacking play.

Sammy Algar scored her first goal in the Blue & Pink locking it up at 3-0 to Dunbar. It must be mentioned that although it’s young Algar’s first goal, she must have at least approximately 346.5 assists to her name with her silky skills and determination. Those goals sandwiched a a wonderful strike from 20 yards by none other than the author of this piece, Kat Jacob who turned to salute mum and dad upon the ball hitting the back of the net! (added post Kat’s writing)

A very satisfying victory was followed with some very satisfying cupcakes. The squad executed an exceptional win and confidence is high heading into the last quarter of the season. Viva la Dunbar!

P.S Squad is also looking forward to Macy Grey renditions this coming weekend.
