O35B’s back to winning ways

The O35A weren’t the only over thirty five team bring home the bacon this weekend. Well done to our Health Space Clinics O35B also.

Match report below:
It was a glorious Sunday morning at the reg as the O35b’s looked to get back to winning ways against QP. With a depleted squad due to injuries, players away and the school holidays not helping, we were glad to have some of the O45’s helping out us younger guys!

It was a scrappy start from both sides with passes going astray and we weren’t helping ourselves by not competing well enough to win the 1st and 2nd balls in the middle of the park. It was one of these where QP had a free header in the centre circle that was headed back towards the Dunbar goal and even though the resulting pass to the QP striker looked offside the goal stood! 1-0 down. There wasn’t much other action in the 1st half with us sitting to deep and neither keeper having to make a save.

We found ourselves 2-0 down 5 mins into the 2nd half after Bally, having been moved to CB and was not under any pressure when the ball came to him, looked like he had been in kings cross all night and had forgotten how to stand, went down in a heap leaving the on rushing QP striker free to collect the ball and slotted it past Jez.

A few minutes later we had a shot from outside the box that was blocked by a QP defender.. Alex following up hit it first time into the roof of the net but the ref had blown for a handball and a pen… which we then missed! Not long after, from a corner, the ref must’ve got a message from the VAR and awarded us another pen for pushing in the box! Gauty, who missed the 1st pen was no where to be seen and there was a discussion between Kia and Graham White on who would take this one before Kia took responsibility and smashed it onto the bar and away it went to safety!

A break down the right shortly saw another great chance missed as with just the keeper to beat we hit the post! Was looking like one of those days but with 25 still to play we got another pen for another handball.. Yes our 3rd pen in 15 mins! A QP defender wasn’t happy with this decision and after a few words to the ref he got his marching orders!

There was no discussion this time as Graham White placed the ball on the spot and sent the keeper the wrong way! Game on… We went to 3 at the back pushing an extra man into midfield as we searched for the equaliser and it wasn’t long before we got it. We got a corner. Before we took it, Pete Daniel was brought back on and with QP not seeing this clever substitution from Sweeney, was able to receive the ball from a short corner in plenty of space on the left and with his first touch put in a great cross to Graeme Killender 2 yards out who flicked a header past the QP keeper… 2 all!

QP had a few chances of their own but failed to test Jez and when they did hit the target, it was rightly disallowed for off side. 5 mins to go and Graeme Killender picked up the ball just inside the box, went past a couple of tackles and shot low into the corner of the goal! 3-2 Dunbar

The final whistle went a couple of mins later and we went home with the 3 points! Great comeback in the 2nd half and we weren’t made to pay for our missed pens!
