Match Report : O35B’s 4 Redfern Raiders 1

The new look Dunbar O35Bs got off to winning ways with a very comfortable 4-1 win over Redfern Raiders.

On a surprisingly grassy Turruwul Park and opting for a 3-5-2 formation, Dunbar quickly got on top and tested the keeper with several long range efforts from Marko, Graham White and Gauty.

Dominating possession, it was no surprise when Giggsy slotted Marko in to get the season up and running with a neat near post finish. Dunbar continued to boss proceedings and after good work down the right side by Nathan, his near post cross was too hot to handle and was turned into his own net by Redfern’s centre half. That’s how the score remained at half time.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first, with Dunbar moving the ball nicely across the pitch. The Redfern keeper was tested again several times, but couldn’t do anything to stop Dunbar’s third goal. After a neat move down the left hand side, JC picked up the ball on the flank and went on to beat three Redfern defenders before a cool finish into the bottom corner. This goal was quickly followed by a clinical finish from Boris, who buried the ball into the roof of the net after he was put through by Graeme Killender. With Dunbar pushing forward to get a fifth, Redfern were able to grab a consolation goal, although it was clear to everyone on the park apart from the man in black that the scorer was some 3 metres offside when the ball was played through. That said, he finished the opportunity well.

All up a very solid start to the season and in fact it could have been a much bigger margin. But game one, we’ll take the victory. Still a few things to work on, but overall a very satisfying start to the campaign and impressive performances from everyone on the park. Next up Pagewood.
