ESFA Men’s Championship Match Reports vs Maroubra United Football Club – 18th April 2015, Coral Sea Park

Dunbar Ressies were looking to maintain their perfect start to the season when they took on their Maroubra counterparts yesterday.

Dunbar started well and created a number of chances before taking the lead through in form striker Anthony Windsor. Some good work from Rob Ward down the left saw him square the ball to Windsor who made no mistake with his finish for his fifth goal of the season.

Dunbar were causing themselves problems with some sloppy defending and rushed clearances but got a lifeline when the eagle eyed referee spotted a handball in the Maroubra box and pointed to the spot.

Captain Paul Stuart stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to grab his first goal of the season.

Credit to Maroubra they forced a succession of corners and it was from one of those corners that they managed to get back into the game. Dunbar’s defence failed to deal with the cross and the ball looked to have crossed the line. The ref checked the video technology aka Magoo and he confirmed that it was a goal.

2-1 Dunbar at the break.

The second half started with Dunbar dictating the tempo of the game and creating some very good chances but the Maroubra keeper was in fine form.

Maroubra then levelled the game when another cross into the 6 yard box was not dealt with by Dunbar and the striker finished well to make it 2-2.

Dunbar continued to spurn good chances until some nifty footwork in the box from Paul Stuart, saw him jink past two defenders before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. 3-2 Dunbar and surely the winner.

However a mix up in the Dunbar defence saw a clearance ricochet straight to the Maroubra frontman who made no mistake finishing into an empty net. 3-3

Maroubra nearly snatched it with the last kick of the game when they struck the crossbar. Two points dropped for the Ressies after being 2-0 up but they remain unbeaten.

In the first grade Dunbar started the better of the two sides and created some gilt edge chances in the opening 15 minutes. Patrick Millington Buck and Michael Lawrence had almost identical chances but failed to keep their shots down from 12 yards. Si Philby saw his goalbound effort deflected over the crossbar for a corner.

Maroubra took the lead against the run of play when keeper James Meyer misjudged a long wind assisted free kick and allowed the defender to head into an empty net.

No need to panic for Dunbar and a harsh lesson about taking chances when they come along.

Maroubra were starting to get on top of Dunbar with Anto Murray winning the aerial battle against Joel Hampson and Iain Downie.

Maroubra doubled their lead soon after when Patrick Millington Buck mistimed a challenge in the Dunbar box and the ref wasted no time in pointing to the spot.

Up stepped Baldy for Maroubra who made no mistake from 12 yards and gave Meyer no chance.

2-0 to Maroubra at the break.

The third goal was going to be vital in this game and unfortunately for Dunbar it went Maroubra’s way when the left midfielder scored a very good goal from just inside the box. A killer blow to Dunbar and a big up hill task now.

Dunbar rang the changes and brought on Ross Webb, Oli Kutscher and Anthony Windsor. As they pushed men forward the succumbed again at the back with man of the match Anthony Murray grabbing a well deserved goal when he rounded Meyer and slotted into an empty net.

4-0 it finished and a very disappointing day for Dunbar all round.
