Season Preview – AA7SAT

Well the season has already started with a big statement….winning the coveted “Dunbar Golf Day – Best Team” title. With the squad assembled this season there should be more silverware to follow. Last year was a baptism of fire for everyone involved, with the team being put together at the last minute and our first pre-season game also being the first game of the season. Valuable lessons were learned from last year heading into 2015 and the whole pre-season process.

Pre-season has had the good, the bad and the ugly in terms of performances. Two pretty poor defeats to Waverley and Randwick City were followed by a good win against North Sydney and a draw to Barker Old Boys, before finishing off with an 18-2 victory against Forest Kilarney in what was a very strange game. With our strike force finding plenty of goals in that game hopefully its a good omen for the first game of the season.

There has also been the customary coming and going of players. We lost 8 of the old faces including the bionic man Chris Agisotis to a series of never ending injuries and Xavier Collins to the USA for “work related purposes”. With help from some of the other coaches and of course the now 10kg lighter Ali Pavey (at time of writing), the 6’s,7’s or 8’s whatever we are going to be called this year, we have been able to get 11 new players into the squad and have enough cover for all positions to be better prepared for the season ahead. With help from Baldy No1 Lee Heweston and this years captain Stef Teulon we have been able to assemble a competitive squad to improve on last year and hopefully end the season as winners of something. A successful drinking session took place last Friday so the lads could get to know each other better. Hopefully it will be a regular thing throughout the season.

I would just like to finish by welcoming Mark, Fab, Frank, Josh, Fletch, James, Matheus, Cal, Kieran, Craig & Vincent to the squad and also a big thanks to Lee, Wes, Stef, Teper, Kyle, Kelvin & “Mars Bar” Morris for sticking around this season. I look forward to buying Morris his lap dance once he gets 20 goals for the season!
