O35 First Round Champions of Champions Match Report

Match Report

Our first round of the Champion of Champions saw us score a resounding 4-1 victory over the Southern District Association winners. The first 20 minutes however, we struggled to get into our groove. Our opposition were quick and had a few dangerous breakaways that if they were more clinical could have seen us in trouble.

We eventually settled and over the next 10 minute spell we buried the game. First a great cross from out wide on the left from Marko, found Gaffers in the box who took the ball down skillfully with a deft first touch and with his second touch calmly placed it past the flailing keeper to make it 1-0 dunbar.

2 minutes later, a great cross from Andy Norman found Nathan “Benteke” Wall in the box waiting to deliver something special, and deliver he did with a text book overhead scissor kick into the net that was a joy to watch. Contender to knock off j Harris knee goal of the year.

Two minute later, a corner from Norms was met powerfully by a flying Stubbs to make it 3 and the game was all but over.

In the second half and with nothing to loose, Canley Vale pushed forward at every opportunity and their new front man causing us lots of trouble. They nicked one back from a corer to make it 3-1 at the 50 minute mark and Stu Ridge was called into play soon after to make a fine one on one save to deny them a second.

With the added pressure we switched back to 442 and managed to take the heat out of the situation. On 75 minutes, after a long ball into the box from Mal out right, saw a scramble and Nathn grabbed a second with a reverse header to make it 4-1 Dunbar and Job done.

Another great squad effort today, and we march on into the Quarter Finals this weekend.
