Ressies v Waverley – Saturday 1 July @Moore Park 5pm~

The Ressies faced a much improved Waverley side on Saturday evening; the corresponding fixture early in the season saw Dunbar ease to a 5-1 victory – this game would be much different.

Dunbar started off slow, with Waverley keeping the ball well and looking like they had a game plan – they were very well organised and looked dangerous on the attack.

Waverley went ahead after a cross through the middle to players who were in acres of space, the forward took it down well and slotted the ball past Jimmy to make it 1 – 0. There was a bit of controversy around the goal – the linesman flagged for offside only to be overruled by the ref: 1-0 Waverley.

Dunbar were very close to going 2-0 down after a short back pass forced a challenge between Jimmy and the Waverley forward, the ball ended up in the net, but the ref this time ruled in favour of Dunbar – the Waverley forward was deemed to have gone in dangerously.

The second half began and Dunbar finally started to up the work rate and looked threatening especially down the right hand side where Adam Smith and new signing, Andy Helsby, were getting a lot of the ball.

Eventually the equaliser came after some quick play from Paul Stuart P to Matthew Pickover who played off to Sealy who with a slide rule pass to Dave Lynes who tucked away his 9th of the season to make it 1-1.

Waverley threated the Dunbar goal, forcing Jimmy into a couple of saves, but the winner came in fantastic fashion – Adam Smith played the ball into Dave Lynes feet who turned on a six pence and then arrowed the shot into the far top corner via the beans on toast to make it 2-1: and that was his 10th of the season!

Another hard fought victory for the Reserves, who remain top of the league going into tonight’s game v Phoenix.

Well done to Waverley Old Boys Football Club who played well on the day and good luck for rest of the season!

Final Score 2 – 1 WIN to Dunbar
