Season Preview – AA6’s

The AA6s have found the summer tough going after missing out on finals football last year due to the weather and there is a determination not to miss out again. The squad has had a bit of an overhaul with a number of familiar faces leaving the club including club stalwarts Fintan Mcguire, Dave Mayne and Ashley Tanner and a number have moved to other grades. However there is still a familiarity about the team with various incoming players that have been around for a while including Russ Hoad, Braian SP and hopefully Dan Voysey if he can overcome a knee injury.

At Ross Sands stag do in November the team think tank voted with its beer and stated that it would be unacceptable for the team to stay in the All Age ranks without a number of people losing 10kgs by the end of January. Coach Ali Pavey and Goalkeeper David Withers were at the front of most peoples thinking and Withers (10.1kg) and Pavey (9.9kg) both delivered, primarily due to the fact there was $75 per kg missed on the line.

With a number of the players aging and families growing rapidly, it really is now or never for a lot of these players to win something with a large number advancing in years and having not won anything for a while (some not at all in their 7 years at the club) and the team will again look to Double G – McCormack and Bryan for goals.

A sprinkling of new players have joined including the prolific Sailor Reece Appleton, the lightening James Aspinall and Tom ‘I can’t play today as I can’t find my inhaler’ O Neill. Another interesting signing is the mercurial twinkle toes Dom Miller who has impressed with his football skills, but not his understanding of colours, often turning up in his black and white Newcastle home shirt when he was specifically asked to wear navy blue.

The lads have won every preseason game with Marc Weeks again one of the standouts, but now its time to deliver!
