Women’s Championship Match Report | 19th April
Dunbar Rovers vs Coogee United 3-0
Dunbar All Age Women Championship side returned home yesterday at the Reg against one of their main rivals, Coogee! After a few late withdrawals in the morning due to illness or surprises the squad turned up at the Reg ready to go, also with a late call up for Paula as Goal Keeper (excellent game in goal!!!). The game kicked off under windy conditions and Dunbar started well and with some positive attacking play down both wings with Nina linking the midfield to the attack and solid at the back with Lorraine, Malin, Sarah (Cpt) and Aleshea. The first goal came after about 25 minutes when a ball was held up by Jana and waited for the timely run of Niz who calmly slotted the ball home from about 14 yards, 1-0 Dunbar!!
The midfield (Bina, Fran, Charlotte) then started moving the ball around and good linking up with Maja, Heather and Zoe kept us moving forward and we got the second after about 35 mins with Zoe with a nice finish at the back post.
However the best was to come in the second half with a cracking volley from Niz that made it 3-0. Coogee played some very good football in the last 30 minutes of the half but a combination of solid defence and some good hands from Paula kept the game at 3-0. Unfortunately in the second half we picked up an ankle injury to one of the warriors, Heather and we wish her a speedy recovery.
