How did you get into coaching football?
I got into coaching football for two reasons: one was to keep my team together, I enjoyed the social aspects of our team and didn’t want to lose that. The second, and the major benefit, is that it has helped me in my career by being able to manage, coach and lead a group of people to work collectively together for a common goal. It just so happens that it’s what I love to do, playing soccer & keeping active.
What has the focus for your team been during the first few weeks of the season?
The main focus points this season have been on how we work together as a unit, our first touches, and how we transition from defensive to attack, all while ensuring we have fun and enjoy it.
How many seasons have you been with the club?
This is my 4th season & my 3rd being involved from a Team Management aspect.
What excites you the most about Season 2015?
Coming off the back of a very successful season last year, I’m hoping we can have just as successful a season this year – after all it would be great as it’s our 25th Season.
What do you or would you want your players to say about you?
I’m easily influenced with a beer or three so if you want to bribe me get down to our sponsors: The Porter House Pub and we can discuss line up & tactics over a beer.
Any standout coaches in your life who helped shape you?
Obviously there are external influences, but when I think internally we have some great examples of coaches that have helped shape me directly and indirectly.
Seeing what Will Cullen, State League Coach, has achieved in such a short space of time is remarkable. Ger Connelly, now Prems Coach, has also done an impressive job! Not forgetting Wes Fagan – his confidence, drive, and resilience. His “never give up and never let anyone decide what you can or can’t do” attitude is inspiring. Dave “Mini” Buck – his passion and love for his team, the club, and for the game is only a part of the reason why he’s been successful.
All these and more are things what inspire me to be a better coach & manager both professionally and personally.
