A stroll against the Park

A beautiful autumnal day at the Reg for the GODs to play Game 2 against cellar dwellers Queens Park. We were delighted to welcome Giggsy and Graham White to see if they could break into a sweat for the first time in 2015.

Another game of two halves. Funny that. In the first half we had 90% of possession and 90% of territory. We were so comfortably in the driving seat, we had the roof down and the music cranked up. However Billy Idol can sound as loud as you like when you are still in the garage and haven’t put the car into gear. Sadly there was too much winking at ourselves in the rear vision mirror and dare I say playing with ourselves. 10 minutes past, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, shots were miscued, headers over the bar, corners kicked straight out, so that 90% of everything didn’t produce anything. The defence was having a very easy time against a weaker Queens Park, and frustrations started building as rust set in on the scoreboard.

Eventually on the 40th min Giggsy realised football is about scoring goals. He opened up the loose QP defence to give Andy Pilkington so much space it was that he couldn’t avoid opening our account.

At half time we talked the usual nonsense, which actually did work. Chris and Adrian both leapt into action like a pair of uncaged tigers. The second half was a much more pleasing affair as we found our gears and started to cruise. We scored four good goals in the next 45 minutes. Forgive me, but I forget the order. Giggsy did some dancing with himself to set himself up for probably the best goal. Nick Cross, Laz and CJ all polished off their drinks in style thanks to the silver service from Bally and Jim. Pedro, Millsy, Coggy, Graham and Doug all played with great efficiency to keep Quintin very clean. Many of them even had a good wander up field to see what all the fuss is about up there.

So in the end a healthy looking 5-0 victory to accumulate the points and buff up the goal difference. It’s a much tighter division this year so these results will be very handy.

Pat Molloy was awarded Man of the Match for his hard work in slowing the match down so Donella could take some decent photos. Don’t worry lads, even though most of you didn’t get dirty, I will still wash the kit for Wednesday. It is Pedro’s birthday so rummage around to see if we can find enough candles.
