‪#‎AAW4‬ v. Olympic Eagles 5-1
Ooooh the night was dark and stormy
The referee was blind!
The goalie dived into the mud
and soiled her white behind!

The freezing rain was coming in sideways Tuesda night yet a startlingly chipper Dunbar team took to the pitch with terrific optimism. For the first 15 minutes we played awesome football; our communication was amazing, the passing was superb and we made great use of our extra space. A couple of fab crosses from Stef and I got in two clean goals with relative ease.

Feeling ludicrously pleased with myself I serenaded the pitch with a rousing rendition of “It’s raining men” to the Olympic defense’ dour amusement. Our defense weren’t singing but their concentration did drop for a mildly embarrassing moment as the somewhat reduced opposition zipped in an unexpected goal.

Huddled with a couple of brave supporters under a spectacularly large umbrella, Elliot reassured us that a few more goals were indeed possible in the second half and we bounded back into the rain. There was a little more faffing around and some frustrated shrieks from our forwards with opportunity after opportunity missed. However we finally found our momentum and Helen then Kaz then Prue found the net. At this stage Olympic were looking like drowned kittens and our back line was practically bored – and shivery from standing around doing nothing in the freezing cold. I was in goals in the second half and spent the forty minutes looking and feeling like a pepsicle (!)

All credit to a courageous Olympic Eagles side for soldiering on; their goalie worked her butt off! But we won…and we took our cold, wet, tired bodies home with singing hearts and a renewed confidence. That final is one step closer.

Goals: Pep (2), Helen Thompson, Kaz Phernandez, Prue Lee
