G12 Pagewood Red FC vs G12 Dunbar Rovers FC
Match Report – Rowland Park 4 – August 2nd 2015
Nerves were high at Rowland Park on Sunday morning as not only were we fielding only 10 players but we were facing top of the table and unbeaten Pagewood Red on their home turf.
From kick off the intensity was high and you could sense this was going to be an entertaining affair!
The midfield worked hard on such a big pitch and with the speed of Millie sprinting down the wings and closing down everything we found ourselves having the best chances in the first quarter. Some great play and determination from Dede, Sienna, Sidonie and Millie put Pagewoods defence on the back foot and we were unlucky not to go ahead but we’d rattled Pagewood’s cages including the spectators! Pagewood came at us with pace and in numbers but the defence and Georgia in goals were strong blocking and clearing everything.
20mins in and the girls were tiring but continued fighting fierce. In the intensity of the game a free kick was given away to Pagewood and a lapse in concentration saw them slot the ball into the back of the net. A much needed half time whistle came and we were able to regroup and focus on the goal ahead.
Pagewood came into the second half with the same intensity but our girls were ready. Lucy, Issy and Esme literally followed instruction and built a brick wall not letting anything through the middle which meant they had to use their wings but Bella and Vicky were there to deny them any attacking opportunities.
Pagewood were starting to show frustration as our girls kept pushing for an equaliser. A corner was won and up stepped Lucy to take it. The ball ended up out at Esme’s feet on the edge of the box, who slotted a pinpoint pass back through the defence to Sienna who passed the ball across the box to a waiting Sidonie who shot the ball over the keeper into the goal. We’d done it we’d equalised and boy did we celebrate that goal!
With still 15 to go Pagewood came at us but we were determined not to let this draw go. Georgia showed great confidence collecting everything and the defence continued to stay focused & disciplined ensuring no one was getting through. A nail biting final 15mins was a battle the girls should be very proud of.
The sweet sound of the final whistle finally came with a big cheer from the Dunbar crowd who were our 11th man on the day. Great support as always!
