Men’ s Championship Team Captain | Simon Philby
Dunbar’s captain of the Men’s Championship team for 2015 is none other than Simon Philby. Si has been with Dunbar since 2004 and was an obvious choice to lead a new look Dunbar Men’s Championship squad this season.
Here are a few words from Si himself on his time at Dunbar and his expectations for the season.
“This will be my 11th season with Dunbar having joined the club back in 2004 at the beginning of a glory era under manager Mikey Dixon.
Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to play in Dunbar’s first grade for 9 consecutive seasons winning the league 5 times and the grand final on 4 occasions. A highlight being the 2008 season where we did the treble winning the league, grand final and the NSW Champion of Champions.
Equally as enjoyable was the 2014 season playing in the ESFA Premier League reserve grade under Ger Connolly, where again we did the Treble winning the league, the grand final and the ESFA Cup. It’s fitting that Ger will be running our Championship first grade side for 2015 after doing such a great job last season, and it’s a real privilege to be made captain for the season ahead.
Dunbar has achieved amazing success over the years, and I credit much of that to the back room staff who have got the club to where it is today. This year could be one of our most challenging yet, but there is already a brilliant spirit amongst the team and some quality new additions. On a personal tip, I’ve never been more energised for the season ahead.”
