Coaches Corner | Ben Jackson
Ben Jackson is coach of the AA??
How did you get into coaching football?
I got into coaching with Dunbar by pure chance as it happens. The team was created at the last minute for the 2014 season and needed a coach so thought I would give it a go. Not going to lie it was a struggle but a lot of lessons have been learned and hopefully can put them right this year.
What has the focus for your team been during the first few weeks of the season?
The main focus has been getting the lads fit and making sure everyone feels part of the team and can become mates. We had a successful night out before the season and hopefully they become a regular thing.
How many seasons have you been with the club?
This will be my 3rd year with Dunbar, my 2nd as coach. Got to know some great people and have made some really good mates in those 3 years.
What excites you the most about Season 2015?
Being able to focus on just 1 team this year and concentrate on winning some silverware. Already have 1 accolade in the bag winning the best team at this years golf day!
What do you or would you want your players to say about you?
Well at the moment I’m known as the “Miserable Northener” or the “Angry Man”. Hopefully the lads put in a few good performances and come up with a cheerier nickname for me in the coming weeks!
Who was a coach who helped shape your life?
Not really sure to be honest. But as an Oldham Athletic supporter I admired the way Joe Royle managed to get a team of relative no bodies to win the league in 1990 and over the coming seasons get promoted to the Premier League, and then featured in 2 FA Cup semi finals.
