Player of the Week – Simon Boteril
Hailing from Rickmansworth which is (just) in London, Simon Boterill is the second winner for this week’s player of the week competition. He may not have won man of the match this week in the AA4s but the fact that he had won it over the past 4 matches and came mighty close last weekend says a lot about this newcomer to Dunbar.
Arriving late to preseason and with complaints of a dodgy hip, people were sceptical but a number of standout performances in preseason guaranteed his place in the squad. Starting the season as a wide player and occasional forward, it was soon realised that his best position was centre midfield and once moved there he has proved to be a linchpin within the AA4s.
Winning just about every header and being the constant link between attack and defense, Simon’s performances on pitch have been nothing short of excellent but equally his prowess socially is something to behold. Despite being newly married and expecting his first child, Simon hasn’t shied away the social side of the club either, regularly the last one standing with menace to society Andrew Higgins.
Simon has weighed in with the occasional goal and assist but it’s the grunt work he does around the park which sets a high standard for the rest of the boys to follow. His highlight of the season so far would not be finding out he’s soon to be a father but definitely his own father coming to watch him play and awarding him a four out of ten for the first half and an overall six out of ten…..nothing quite like fatherly love.
This little recognition is much deserved and he will be missed over the long weekend whilst in Tasmania on a romantic getaway.
Well done mate.
