Weekend Results

With the weekend over and Monday upon us we can now look back at all weekend the action.

Unfortunately the lights at Waverley Park went out and as a result our O35A game was postponed. They will now play this evening at Heffron Park – Good luck to the chaps , the winner will play Pagewood in the Grand Final on Friday night.

The O35B’s bowed out at the elimination final stage after suffering a 3-1 defeat following extra time against Maroubra. A great season by the chaps and they can be rightfully proud of their efforts in reaching this far.

Our O45’s showcased their ruthlessness again yesterday to claim a 7-1 victory to book a place in the grand final against Pagewood.

In the last game at Hensley Athletic on Sunday night, our AAW1’s were looking to add the grand final to their minor premiership, playing against regular foes Coogee.

Coogee were denied early on when Maja Tellström made a number of outstanding saves to keep the scores level. She was eventually beaten by an absolutely screamer making it 1 nil. Immediate pressure from Dunbar saw the award of a penalty for handball and it was slotted home with ease by Francy Brady. Just as the game was drifting towards extra time, Coogee scored what turned out to be the winner with very little time left with another fantastic strike into the top corner. Unfortunately the grand final was not to be and the girls will be looking to make amends when they commence their Champions of Champions campaign on September 23rd.

The highlight of the day was seen at the 4.30pm kick off at Hensley where our AAW2’s were taking on league winners Waverley Old Boys Football Club in the grand final. The teams were only separated during the season by 3 points and their records throughout the campaign could not have been any tighter, each with a win, draw and defeat – 5 goals for and 5 against – this promised to be tight.

Waverley took the the lead following the award of a penalty, Katie Duke was just unable to make the save. Dunbar hit back almost immediately when Shyamali Michelle equalised with a composed finish just inside the box. Things improved for Dunbar when Annabel Kingsford poked home the second before Emma Louise headed home the third to make it 3 – 1 at half time.

With the winds at their backs, Waverley attacked relentlessly throughout the second half and were rewarded when a freekick found the back of the net deflecting off the head of inspirational skipper Kat Jacob. Dunbar held firm and relief greeted the final whistle, Our AAW2’s adding the grand final to the ESFA cup they retained earlier in the season to cap of what has been a great year for the team.

We would like to thank all our opponents yesterday for games that were played in an amazing spirit and were a true testament to the game of football.
